We founded the Big Picture Association to implement projects for the local community. The three of us started our activities, so the only available organizational form was setting up an ordinary association. It is registered in the national registry. The association is nonprofit and operates on the status. Funds for the implementation of the projects come from membership fees and grants.
We have managed to implement numerous projects thanks to cooperation with institutions and non-governmental organizations. We present those that “gave us wings” and helped make our dreams true.
The gallery is a municipal cultural institution aimed to promote the legacy of The Sleńdzińscy family. The gallery carries out its mission by purchasing, storing and preserving works of art, conducting research, organizing exhibitions, running cultural, educational events. It has three branches located in the city center and one in the picturesque Bojary district.
From the beginning of the Association’s operation, the Gallery offered its help and support letting us organize the events in its premises. Workshops, meetings and film screenings took place in the Gallery. The Gallery’s help in organization and promotion influenced the quality and importance of our events. We feel that our projects are associated with reliability and worth. The cooperation with the Gallery has enriched the Association’s performance.
The Culture Concept Foundation is a “perpetual motion machine” driven by the energy of a group of creative enthusiasts. For many years, they have been creating projects in the field of history, literature, art, modern technologies and museum education. Their passion is to tell about historical events using modern, often surprising forms of communication. They engage viewers, arouse their curiosity about Polish history, culture and tradition. They prove that exploring these areas of culture can be a fascinating adventure.
One of such adventures we experienced together while organizing the “Niepodległa” Virtual History Theater shows in Białystok. Thanks to the cooperation, students from Białystok schools took part in VR sessions and learned about the history of the MS Piłsudski ocean liner.
The Institute was established to educate teachers in the United States, Europe, and other parts of the world about human rights and social justice through the prism of the Holocaust. The first summer seminar was held in New York in 2006. Since then, TOLI has expanded to include graduate-led satellite seminars in Europe. Seminars in Poland are held with the organizational support of our Association. We organized two seminars together, and we also run a minigrant program for teachers.
The Institute is named after Olga Lengyel, an Auschwitz survivor and author of the book: “Five Chimneys: A Woman Survivor’s True Story of Auschwitz.” Olga, an American immigrant and philanthropist, has worked all her life to commemorate the victims, she wanted people to learn from the Holocaust in order to avoid further tragedies. The key to reach the goal is education.
